Blu e Cigs Review
Blu e Cigs Finally Arrive in the UK
Blu e Cigs, for those that don’t know, are a US based company that were one of the first to be bought by one of the big tobacco companies, namely Lorillard. They haven’t started from scratch in the UK however, Lorillard again have been on a spending spree and taken over British e cig brand SKYCIG in a £30 million deal. This in turn has seen Sky Cig re branded as (yes you guessed it) Blu e Cigs.
So there we have it, a little background of the current situation. If you are a Sky Cig customer don’t fret too much, as you will learn from the review that the products are indeed cross compatible. So off we went to blucigs.co.uk and bought the Premium kit (£29.99) for this Blu Cig review.
In the box / Presentation
The Blu Cig Premium Kit comes complete with:
- 2 x Rechargeable batteries
- PCC
- 3 x Cartomiser Refills
- USB Charger
Battery/Responsiveness
The 2 Blu batteries in the kit are of course mini e cig batteries which while good for familiarity when smokers are making the switch to e cigs they aren’t exactly known for there long life. By life I mean how long the battery lasts between charges so just something to keep in mind when searching for the a product to fit your needs.
Even with cig-a-likes (mini e cigs) there are a number of different size batteries and setups, for example, Green Smoke and Jacvapour offer a few different capacity batteries whereas Blu offer just the one.
In terms of how long the Blu battery lasts for, I was getting around 1.5 hours of use before a re-charge was needed. This isn’t a long time but it has to be expected if a small e cig is what you want. Blu e Cig do however have a solution and while it doesn’t solve the battery life issue it does go some way to helping. What am I talking about? The portable charging case or PCC as it is known for short.
PCC
The PCC is not only a handy little case to carry around spare cartomisers (3) and batteries, it also allows to charge a battery when out and about on the move. This is done by placing the battery in the charging slot and closing the lid. A light will then indicate to show the battery is being charged, simple as that. The case, once fully charged, should allow for 3/4 batteries to be fully charged so should see the average vaper throughout a working day.
The actually quality of the PCC it has to be said is very good, with a rubberised coating the slimline box slides effortlessly in and out of my jeans pocket and unlike other PCC’s I have seen is non intrusive.
When it comes to replacing the batteries, Blu have priced them at a reasonable £6.99 or £6.49 if two or more are bought.
Overall - The Blu e cig batteries are good quality and while they have a short life the PCC does help to extend this when you are out and about away from a power source.
Vapour / Flavour
Blu offer just two options when it comes to the Blu premium Kit flavours, Tobacco or Menthol both in an 18mg nicotine strength. So not the widest choice for sure but I can see why they are limiting options. Blu e Cigs are targeting new electronic cigarette users and with that they are trying to keep things as simple as possible and rightly so. I remember when I first started using e cigs, I wasn’t interested in alternate flavours at the time, it was all about the tobacco flavours. Since then I gradually moved over 99% to alternate options such as fruit or sweet flavours. This may or may not be your thing but that is something you can move to at a later date. As with the size of the Blu Cig the flavours are all about keeping things familiar, this in turn offers an increased likelihood of staying off cigarettes.
Anyway! Enough of that, what do they actually taste like?
I went for the Menthol option and it was good, a nice icy hit to the back of the throat with a fresh minty aftertaste on the exhale. It wasn’t as good as the Menthol from Green Smoke (for my personal tastes) but as a starting point it certainly does the trick. The vapour volume was also decent.
The kit only comes with three refills which as starter kits go is a couple short than most. When coming to buy refills they are on the expensive again due to the fact that they only come in packs of three as opposed to the standard five that most other brands supply. Price wise if you buy 5 packs (each contain 3 cartomisers) the price is at it’s lowest at £5.99 upto £6.99 when buying packs separately.
As touched on in the opening paragraph, if you currently vape SkyCig you can use the Blu Cig cartomisers with their batteries and vice versa.
Overall - The Menthol flavour wasn’t the best I have tried but was decent. The only real downside was the price of the refills and that are available only in boxes of three.
Returns/Warranty
There is a 30 day no questions asked return policy offered by Blu Cigs even if you have used and tried the kit. While this seems good on the surface the T&C’s need to be read carefully. Blu charge a restocking fee that for the kit on review here is £10.
Customer Service
Blu have numerous options to get in touch. A free phone number, email an live chat are available via the website.
Discount Codes
We have not come across any Blu e cig discount codes at the moment. As usual, as soon as we do we will list them here.
Bottom Lane
The Blu e Cig Premium Kit is without doubt a quality product and the brand as a whole looks very slick, it’s plain to see that a lot of money has been invested in the Blu brand. Does all that mean it is the best e cigarette available? Well of course that’s a matter of opinion and mine thinks it’s good but I do prefer the offering from Jacvapour and Green Smoke with the latter being my top pick in terms of flavour.
Another thing to keep in mind when looking to buy an e cig is how heavy a smoker you are. Heavy smokers may struggle with Blu e Cigs due to the short battery life, the constant charging of batteries may start to get on your nerves. The only way to combat this is to have a stock of 3/4 batteries and have them in a rotation.
So to summarise, I would recommend this for:
- Light to moderate smokers that specifically want a cig-a-like e cig.
This may not be right for:
- Heavy smokers due to the limited battery life
- Those that a are not concerned about starting on a small e cig such as this.
Final Blu e Cig Review Verdict
Good product but recommended only for those that are light/moderate smokers .

Blu Cigs are a great alternative to smoking compact and look good
I find these e-cigs easy to use, they charge quickly and as a reasonably light smoker they work perfectly for me. The pack fits nicely in a hand bag and keeps everything together in one place. I started with Skycig (the white version) but am pleased that the Blu e-cigs are even slicker and slightly slimmer. I think that this is a great product and would not change.
